About me

Susanne YP Choi received her D.Phil from Nuffield College, Oxford University. She is currently Professor at the Department of Sociology. The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She was a Fulbright scholar at Harvard University in 2013. Her current research interests include gender, family, sexuality, and migration. Her book Masculine Compromise: Migration, Family and Gender in China published by University of California Press in 2016 won the International Sociological Association Sociology of Migration 2018 Best Book Award. Her other works were published in top international journals such as American Journal of Sociology. In 2015 Susanne was appointed a board member of Hong Kong's Equal Opportunities Commission and has since lead its effort to advance equal opportunities through policy advocacy, research and training. In 2017, Susanne received the Research Excellence Award and the Exemplary Teaching Award from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
