President, Hong Kong Baptist University
Professor Roland Chin is President and Chair Professor of Computer Science of Hong Kong Baptist University. He has also served as Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at The University of Hong Kong (2010-2015); Deputy President and Provost (2006-2010) and Vice-President for Research and Development (2003-2006) at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology; and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Wisconsin, Madison USA (1981-1995). He also worked on satellite image analysis at the Goddard Space Flight Center of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) from 1979-1981.
In Hong Kong’s higher education scene, Professor Chin was a member of the University Grants Committee (2004-2012), the Chairman of the Research Grants Committee (2005-2012), Board of Director of Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (2012-2018). He currently serves as a Member of the HKSAR’s Committee on Innovation, Technology and Re-industrialisation, and is a Trustee of The Croucher Foundation.
His research and teaching interests include artificial intelligence, machine vision and data analysis.
